Manchester United's pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo has hit a snag as Brentford turned down their initial offer of £62.5 million ($85.7 million), ESPN sources confirm.
The Red Devils have identified Mbeumo as a key target and have been actively engaged in discussions with Brentford in recent days.
Manchester United, under Ruben Amorim, are keen to bolster their squad, even without Champions League football. However, the club insists on maintaining a "disciplined" approach to transfer fees and player wages.
The club has already secured Matheus Cunha from Wolves by activating his £62.5 million release clause. Cunha, 26, scored 15 Premier League goals last season.
Despite the initial rejection, Manchester United remain optimistic about their chances of landing Mbeumo.
The club hopes to finalize the deal, allowing the Cameroon international to join the team for preseason training, which begins on July 7.
