Pogba Resurrects Career, Joins AS Monaco After Doping Ban

Paul Pogba has officially marked his return to professional football, joining AS Monaco on a new deal. The French club made the announcement on Saturday, June 28, signaling the end of Pogba's hiatus following his doping ban.

The World Cup winner aims to revitalize his career, signing a two-year contract with the Principality club.

Doping Ban and Contract Termination

In February 2024, Pogba received a four-year ban after testing positive for DHEA, a substance known to boost testosterone levels. Following a successful appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the ban was reduced to 18 months. His contract with Juventus was terminated in November of the previous year by mutual agreement.

Monaco's Official Announcement

"AS Monaco are delighted to announce the arrival of Paul Pogba," the club stated. "The French World Champion has signed a two-season deal, committing to the Principality until 30 June 2027."

A Career of Highs and Lows

Pogba initially rose to prominence with Manchester United before establishing himself as a key player for Juventus. During his time with the Turin-based club, he secured four Serie A titles. In 2016, he returned to Manchester United for a then-world record fee of 89 million pounds.

However, his second stint with the Premier League giants yielded only two trophies. He then left the club on a free transfer, rejoining Juventus in 2022. His second period at Juventus was marred by injuries.

Recent History

Pogba last represented France in 2022 and was absent from the Qatar World Cup due to an injury. Last season, Monaco finished third in Ligue 1, trailing behind PSG and Marseille.
