Pogba Signs with Monaco After Doping Suspension
Paul Pogba, the French midfielder, has officially joined AS Monaco on a free transfer. The Ligue 1 club announced the signing on Saturday, marking a new chapter for the 32-year-old after serving a doping ban.
Sources close to the deal confirmed to ESPN that Pogba opted for Monaco over a more financially rewarding offer from a Saudi Pro League team, signing a two-year contract.
The World Cup-winning midfielder has been out of competitive play since September 2023, when he last played for Juventus.
Pogba received a four-year ban in February 2024 after testing positive for DHEA, a substance known to elevate testosterone levels. Following an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the suspension was reduced to 18 months.
Juventus, his former club, announced in November a mutual agreement to terminate his contract, initially set to expire in June 2026.
While previous reports linked Pogba to potential moves in both MLS and the Saudi Pro League, he has chosen to return to professional soccer in his native France.
Although he developed through the academy at Le Havre, this move marks the first time Pogba will play competitively in France, having previously spent his club career at Manchester United and Juventus.
